She explained that the purpose of the Board is to serve in the capacity of an extra governmental organization. It is composed of knowledgeable citizens serving voluntarily to provide technical information and supplemental advice to the county Board of commissioners. She said that its major purpose is to Aid the commissioners and governmental units to maintain and improve the environmental conditions of Guilford county to assure Safe healthful and aesthetically pleasing surroundings for All inhabitants present and future. She said that it indicates studies and makes reports of its studies and recommendations to the commissioners. The Board is composed of nine members selected from a spectrum of vocational and professional specialists in air and water resources vascular plants microbiology societal affairs aesthetic concerns and Urban and Public health Legal affairs and specialists in Public communications and education. Mrs. Young explained some of the findings of the committee and described the Pilot projects. Among these were soil erosion pollution of streams conservation of Trees and plants a study of the Case system of septic tanks recycling and other subjects. Mrs. Rex Walser vice president conducted the business meeting and opened with a poem by Henry Van Dyke.
