Hearing on Cotton Hosiery Duty Increase Set

Washington Bureau of High Point Enterprise reports a public hearing to decide on raising import duties on cotton hosiery mills will be held in Washington on January 26, 1937. American manufacturers claim Japanese imports unfairly undercut U S prices due to low duties, with extension granted from January 12 to allow fuller preparation. The Tariff Commission will hear from domestic firms importers and others, then forward recommendations to President Roosevelt who may raise or cut the duty by up to fifty percent.
