Professor Named American Of Interest In Nietzsche Studies
CHAPEL HILL December 14 Dr Herbert W Reichert associate professor in the University of North Carolina German department has been named American of his interest and work in Nietzsche research. The Nietzsche Society formed in 1919 by German authors Thomas Mann and Hugo von Hofmannsthal aimed to revive European cultural values. Nazis later misused Nietzsche, but since the 1950s scholars pursue a more objective view, arguing Nietzsche sought self control not conquest. The Nietzsche Society was re established in 1956 with Friedrich Wurzbach as president, funded by Munich.
