Christmas musical events fill churches across High Point

A series of Christmas concerts and pageants fills area churches. The Baptist and Presbyterian groups sponsor carols and vesper services led by named directors and choirs. Handel's Messiah will be performed at Wesley Memorial with guest soloists. The Story of Christmas in Scripture and Song comes to Mitchells Grove Methodist Church, and Crestwood Presbyterian hosts multiple age group parties.

Korean Merchant Ship Sinks Near Tsushima Strait

The 163 ton Shinko New Light Maru sank in Tsushima Strait between Japan and South Korea yesterday. Fourteen crew members are missing and one was rescued by a nearby fishing boat. The vessel carried 100 tons of scrap from Pusan to Osaka and the Japanese Coast Guard reported patrol ships heading to the scene.
