Sexes Battle For Benefit Of Children
In an exhibition softball game in Thomasville the women’s team sponsored by the Thomasville Woman's Club defeated the men's team sponsored by Gray Seal Paint 2 to 0. The women used an 18 member outfield, forced left hand batting for the men, and outlawed gloves for male players, a setup the organizers called a slight rule change to aid the charity event. Proceeds, about $500, support learning disabilities programs in Davidson County and Thomasville schools, funding libraries at Hasty Elementary, Kerns Street, and Fairgrove. Participants came from Lexington Albemarle Winston-Salem Thomasville and High Point. Fab Masters Co sponsored the men’s team. Trophies totaling $1,000 and 14 individual prizes were donated by area firms. The Junior Woman's Club has long aided learning disabilities with events and is promoting a film on Early Recognition of Learning Disabilities to be shown again Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Davidson County Library.
