Colonel Scott ordered removal after a conference with officers and a brotherhood committee. Trainmen and railway clerks at Spencer shops resume work as national guardsmen withdraw, following threats and a clash that led to guard duty at Salisbury and Spencer.
A. B. Huff local theater proprietor and Will Switzer longtime merchant were arrested on separate charges of aiding and abetting in the Home Banking Company shortage case. Both posted $5,000 bonds. Hedgecock, former cashier, faces prior trial. case to be heard at Guilford superior court next month in Greensboro.
At a noon meeting the Civitans voted to rename High Point streets under a systematic plan proposed by S C Clark. They favor axes from Main street and the railroad with Broad becoming First street or First avenue, aiming to reduce the city labyrinth. The group postponed constitutional business due to absent members.
In Salisbury Spencer five train organizations and railway clerks end a walkout as troops are pulled from the shops. A union committee assured stable conditions and most workers, including 250 clerks, vote to return to work despite guards remaining on site earlier.
In Salisbury on August 22 a group of African Americans were rounded up by authorities during an early morning sweep. Police reported the detainment occurred without incident and officials are questioning the seized individuals. Local leaders condemned the action as a heavy-handed raid.
Mrs Spreckles Wakefield the first wife of the late Jack Spreckles offered to buy Rodney Kendrick, a newspaper artist, from his wife for 100 dollars a month for life. The wife acknowledged the offer and said Kendrick had already given his wedding ring to Wakefield. Wakefield declared Kendrick planned a divorce.
Masked men abducted eight Black workers from Southern Railway shops in Spencer, drove them to the countryside near Salisbury, dumped them on a road, and fired as they fled. One man was found wounded. others are unaccounted for.
Railway officials clear all passenger trains from Spencer terminal and set crews, after trainmen walked out last night. No freight trains moved since the walkout, announced at Richmond terminal office this morning.
Schaub of the Southern railway reports that guards on special duty at Spencer were ordered by Col. Don Scott to relinquish guard duty and return to camp at the fair grounds. The move followed a telegram from Spencer and a message to superintendent R. E. Simpson after engineers and firemen refused to work while guards remained.
A bandit raid in Relair Maryland nets $10,000 in furs along with watches cash and jewelry. B H Steecker and Morris Karpenreich of Philadelphia Alaska Fur company reps were forced at pistol point to surrender their car and valuables. The pursued machine remains found abandoned four miles away with the furs missing.
Brussels reports ongoing negotiations in Bucharest over the concession of Romanian oil fields to France and Belgium. If successful, Belgians would receive a one fifth share in concessions covering 20 000 acres of valuable oil lands in Romania.
In Elizabeth, New Jersey, a fire in an Italian boarding house killed four people, two women and two children. Mrs. Giovannia Guariello and her two young sons died along with Miss Giuseppina Reviello, a niece. A male boarder escaped by leaping from a second story window.
Chief L W Blackwelder plans to ask the city council to require all persons involved in automobile accidents within High Point to report the incident to police headquarters immediately. The measure aims to improve case handling, aid justice, and follow precedents from Charlotte and other North Carolina cities.
Ellis Nasser, an Assyrian, was fined 50 dollars and costs for forgery then rearrested two hours after release for attempting to pass another worthless check. The first incident involved a failed pass at American Exchange National Bank with 400 dollars sought and 185 given.
Seven teen machinists electricians and pipe men left Greensboro today for Southern shops in Columbia. Four remained in Pomona shops of the Southern railway. The Chicago elevated lines will sell a transferable weekly ticket for 1.25 dollars usable any number of times by the holder, with the limit that only one person may ride at a time. Casual riders can buy three tickets for 25 cents. Present rates are 10 cents per ride or four tickets for 35 cents.
Burglars stole a safe containing about 100 dollars and papers from the Old Dutch Market at 1004 King Street Alexandria. The crime occurred early Sunday morning and was discovered when manager Joseph Laney found a raised rear window and suspected the safe was moved through the alley.

In Coffeyville Kansas on August 22 farmer H A Tebo, described as a total abstainer by friends, fought off a field attack by snakes. He reportedly killed 82 snakes within about 10 hours after the encounter began, with several proving a fierce challenge.
Mrs James A Clarke wife of the pastor was presented with a bread tray by the Women's Missionary Union of the First Baptist church at its regular Tuesday meeting. The award recognized her untiring work for the union and the church and reflected long service in the organization.

Will Grays was tried in municipal court for receiving more than one quart of liquor in 15 days and for possession for sale. He was found not guilty of possession for sale but guilty for receiving liquor and fined $50 plus costs. No other cases were disposed of in municipal court this morning.
Tom Carver former Hodcarriers union walking delegate was fined and jailed until the fine is paid after conviction for carrying concealed weapons and firing three shots at a Black man on a Marion County construction job. The victim was behind in union dues. the incident occurred near Marion near Herrin, close to the June massacre. The Marion trades council condemned Carver's action in a resolution.
