Ban Affects Meat Costs
The USDA predicts beef prices could rise about three and a half cents per pound if the growth hormone DES is banned from cattle feed. FDA official Van Houweling cites a 48 hour slaughter withdrawal to avoid residues and a voluntary certification used by feeders.
