Furor Over Cars Now Settled in Randolph County
Randolph County Commissioners allow Sheriff Carl Moore to spend his budget as he sees fit for patrol cars and related needs, within the budget. The board rescinded a restriction that required new cars only, after Moore requested used patrol cars for immediate use citing delays for 1977 models. Commissioners Pugh Bowman Allman backed Moore while Langley and White opposed removing the new-car stipulation. Moore’s cost data showed patrol car operating costs averaging nine cents per mile over 11 months, with a range from four to 14 cents.
