Postmaster General Farley announced the addition of 1 885 regular workers to large city and rural post offices nationwide. The move expands staffing across the Postal Service as of August with no further details provided.
Germany buried Paul von Hindenburg in a shrine as Adolf Hitler praised the late president for opening the door to Nazism. The simple funeral filled the national war monument tower with military honors, diplomats, and top officials while the nation paused for the ceremony.
In a Pottsville style political clash, Bill Vare joins Pinchot and Pepper in a three cornered 1926 primary where Vare wins then faces two Senate challenges. The contests allege fraud and excessive spending with whitening ballots from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The Senate later excludes Vare 58 to 22. The funeral time for Pinchot’s cautionary note remains undecided and burial planned at Laurel Hill.
In New Orleans a court delays injunction hearings in the Huey Long Walmsley feud until August 14 as Adjutant General Fleming remains uncited. Senator Long, missing for days, did not attend. Walmsley attended with lawyers. Judge Nat W. Bond insists service on the Adjutant General is required before trial can proceed.
August 7 AP report notes 108 inmates escaped from prison camps in Raleigh North Carolina, according to the monthly findings of the state highway and public works commission.
Herbert Redd of Augusta Georgia was acquitted in city court by Judge Wiley G Barnes after the state failed to prove that any of 116 cases of bonded liquor seized here Sunday were disposed of in North Carolina.
In Glasgow Montana Roosevelt returned to the White House after a ceremony in which Sioux and Assiniboine Indians named him Fear less Blue Eagle, recognizing him as a chief.
In Vienna on August 7, an Army soldier Ernst Feike hanged for high treason linked to the Nazi Putsch that killed Chancellor Dollfuss. A Klagenfurt court martial imposed and later commuted Karl Kostelnig to 15 years in prison for involvement with Nazi actions.
Weather brief notes fair tonight in both states with Wednesday partly cloudy conditions. Showers are forecast in western North Carolina and northern South Carolina, with winds easing tonight.
President Roosevelt tours drought stricken Northwest from Fort Peck Montana to North Dakota. He vows to do all possible to curb the drought while stressing relief and redistribution of workers to better opportunities as relief reports arrive. In York County South Carolina W L Parsley sent his mule to the chain gang for six months after the animal wrecked plows barns guano distributors and other farm implements. Parsley hopes the punishment will teach the mule a lesson though he fears more damage may follow.
Washington reports talks began to clear the way for a trade treaty with Spain as commerce data show trade nearly doubling in the first half of 1934. Principal exports include cotton tobacco lumber rubber and machinery with talks also under way with Brazil Sweden and several Latin American coffee countries.
The state banking department completed liquidation of Merchants and Farmers Bank of Garysburg, which closed December 31, 1931, with depositors paid 19,304.47 dollars, or 100 percent of deposits.

The 56th Pioneer Infantry association holds its annual reunion in Monroe tomorrow. The regiment served in France and with the Army of Occupation in Germany. Dr. S. C. Duncan of Monroe is president.

Virginia cancels Senate House nominating vote with Byrd and nine incumbents unopposed.
Rome reports indicate the Italian leader Benito Mussolini and Signora Donna Rachelle Mussolini anticipate a sixth child around February. Riccione dispatch notes Signora Mussolini is at a summer resort caring for the Dollfuss children after the Austrian chancellor's assassination. Frau Dollfuss is likewise expected to have a new child soon.
In Douarnenez France on August 7 captains of 130 boats dumped over a million sardines back into the sea to keep the price at 6 cents a pound after rejecting a 5 1/2 cent offer. The move reflects a coordinated effort by fishers to control supply and support earnings.
The state highway and public works commission opened bids for road and street projects in Raleigh. Tomorrow the panel will consider awarding to the low bidders contingent on federal approval.
In New Orleans tension rose as a sentry at Jackson Barracks fired at an unidentified intruder after a week of armed clash between Huey P. Long’s followers and Mayor T Semmes Walmsley. Guards remained stationed near the registration office with gas masks and weapons. The city center held despite the standoff as both leaders back rival candidates for the upcoming September congressional primary.
At Ocracoke on a Carolina coast cruise Governor Ehringhaus and family expanded their relics of shipwrecks collection. A brass key from a wrecked ship was given to Mrs Ehringhaus by Aycock Brown, joined by others like a signal board from the Vera Cruz and a deadeye from the Carroll. The party enjoyed beaches, dancing, and a minor squall that damaged lines northward.
