Contracts Awarded For Work At Evergreens In Guilford County
Guilford County commissioners awarded contracts to add 40 beds to the Evergreens nursing home east of Greensboro bringing capacity to 136. Total bids 90,659 within a 94,000 budget. Winners include Joslin's Construction Co. and J W Keller Inc. A second project plans 24 more beds at the old county home with Home Projects Inc. and Jackson Plumbing and Heating Co. bids. Four ambulances for emergency service cost 42,912. County to re bid electrical work for isolation cell at the Guilford County Farm. Tax collections reach 97.95 percent totaling 18,954,910.95 through July.

A 10-year-old cyclist was struck by Antonio Perez 36 of Putnam Street. Brian Keith Morgan sustained minor injuries. Multiple drivers faced charges for failure to yield or speed. totals included 775 and 1100 dollar damages.

Calvin Rice, assistant manager of the High Point Chamber of Commerce, will travel to Syracuse University next week to join an Advanced Management course in a three year program. He has completed three Principles of Management courses and now enters the first year of advanced study. The program aims to teach the philosophy behind management techniques including motivation, the management process, human factors, finance, economics and research.

About 600 people protested the school board plan to assign 70 percent white and 30 percent black students across three junior highs. They opposed sending white children to Griffin Junior High, a mostly Negro school in a predominantly Negro neighborhood. A July 16 federal hearing urged plans for faculty and staff integration next year and for elementary integration in 1970 71, with possible civil action.
