NAIC Five Portfolios Show Big Gains For Amateur Investors
New York AP reports the National Association of Investment Clubs tested five portfolios from December 1974 to July 1 with no fear of rising Fed rates. The worst portfolio gained 70.2 percent and the best 193.2 percent, while others rose 139.8 118 and 78.7 percent. The strategy favored independent stock picks and long holds, not following the crowd or big-money herd instincts.

Capitol Ideas Extra Income To Be Affected
Early spring a new ethics code tightens outside income to 15 percent of a member's legislative pay. With a $57 500 salary the cap is $8 625, affecting speeches and honorariums. Moynihan led current senators in speaking fees, and Hayakawa commented on political jargon while noting his own progress.
