Unemployment Rate Dips to 6.9 Percent in July

The U S government reports the July unemployment rate fell to 6.9 percent from June 7 1 percent. Civilian labor force declined by 340000 as teenagers mostly reduced entries. Total employment stood at 90 6 million with 6 7 million unemployed, down 220000.

Carter Signs Bill to Create 200000 Jobs Across Nation

President Carter signed a $1 billion program to employ 200000 young Americans with park and forestry jobs, training, and dropout reduction aims. In the Rose Garden ceremony he also presided over the oath for James R. Schlesinger as first Energy Secretary as the Senate confirmed his nomination.
