Arctic Rescue of 101 Survives Ice Pack Saga
A stranded group of 101 Russians and crew on the Chelyuskin perishably clung to Arctic ice near Wrangel Island as rescuers from Moscow Alaska and Vladivostok mounted a months long effort. Planes boats and ice breakers finally pulled the survivors to safety with Professor Schmidt and other leaders decorated by the government. The epic rescue is hailed as one of polar history's boldest.
