Ship Canal Links Wheat Belt to Ocean Ambition
Kansas City April 25 The Mississippi Valley association plans to push the Great Lakes St. Lawrence ship canal and river development to bring ocean access to midwest wheat regions. Walter S. Dickey argues the project lowers transport costs and boosts farmer income, while railroads and New York oppose it as a threat to grain and trade. The convention will feature leaders like Senator McKinley and Governor Allen amid talks on railways waterways and economic policy.
