A major earthquake centered on Tokio at 10 15 this morning caused extensive damage to buildings and the contents. Mount Asayama erupted yesterday to the northwest but caused no serious damage. The quake lasted fifteen minutes and did not kill Americans or Europeans. the American embassy and peace expo exhibits suffered damage. Yokohama also suffered severe tremors with destruction in the Chinese quarters and water works disrupted.
