Washington reports North Carolina will show a smaller tobacco acreage this year with much of last year’s crop still in growers hands. Transplanting is underway in Tennessee as plants grow fast, possibly requiring replanting after recent freezes. Virginia markets close, co operative marketing groups expand. New England cuts acreage.
