Federal Agents Describe Stockade Held In Peonage In Ga
In Covington Ga April 16 federal investigators described the stockade at the Jasper county Williams plantation where state peonage charges were lodged. They reported a red 40 by 264 foot house with barred shutters rock holes and sleeping bunks and beds inside. The court overruled a defense motion to rule out peonage charges. Witnesses said Williams and sons ran the farm with Clyde Manning a negro boss and that Manning and another man killed an eleven to block the peonage case. The trial saw testimony about motives and possible killings and court warnings on incriminating questions.
