RS Harriet Fox known as Mother Fox celebrated her 91st birthday on last Monday September 25. She took a brief trip to New York returning Thursday evening and enjoyed a sight seeing drive covering 65 miles. She was especially pleased with the ocean during her visit.
A Sunday School Rally at Derry Presbyterian Church is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 1 30 o clock. A special program will be held and the community is cordially invited to attend.
Thirty applicants have signed up for night classes at the YMCA as it begins next Monday evening October 2 at 7 30. Applications are still welcome and should be made at once. Doors open at 7 to allow study and practice before sessions.
The last service of the conference year will be held at Salem United Brethren Church Hershey at 10 00 with Rev C G Romig preaching and reporting on the year s work. A similar service will be held at Gravel Hill Church in the evening. An invitation is extended to all. Next week the pastor will attend the annual conference sessions at Reading.
ARLIE DAVIS, the Hershey Inn porter, pursued William Williams who vanished with clothes and a charged bill on Charlie's Hershey account. Williams was arrested in Harrisburg and jailed awaiting today’s trial. witnesses R. C. Arlington and J. N. Smith were subpoenaed.
HE Derry township schools opened Monday with total attendance 214. High School 50 students seven seniors. Grammer 80. Intermediate 33. Fifth 88. Secondary 24. Primary 39. Three new teachers in McKinley building Elmer Erb new High School principal Arthur Hawker Intermediate May Moyer Fifth. Attendance up due to Knowledge Hill closure sending pupils to Hershey. New High School room not yet furnished seats ordered. building gains ample space though furniture lacks.
A Sunday morning collision occurred when a milk trolley and a Lebanon car collided at Cleona. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage and motorman Irvin Wynn was thrown from the Lebanon car into the nearby field.
The Hershey Chocolate Company has let a contract for a large reinforced concrete building. It will be 200 by 180 feet, five stories high, larger than the box factory, to be located west of the power plant for cold storage and other uses. John Wickersham holds the contract and work starts immediately to finish before winter.
Levi Weaver of Straus announces that Mennonite Church at Derry Church will hold services next Sunday morning beginning at ten o'clock. All are welcome to attend.
A. T. Dice, General Superintendent of the Harrisburg Division of the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad, with his wife and daughter, arrived in Hershey yesterday morning in their private car Schuylkill at 11 20. They went to the factory to see how chocolate is made in Hershey.
