A Sunday fire at Hershey Chocolate Company destroys more than two million pounds of powdered chocolate and damages machinery in four story building No 25 but fails to halt plant operations. The blaze started on the fourth floor and was checked by fire proofing. a watchman said he checked the room at about 4 am. Continued on page 5.
Hershey High School pupils stage Tompkins Hired Man at Hershey Central Theatre. A charity performance Tuesday March 12 at eight. Tickets 85 cents general, 15 cents for older children at the door. Proceeds go to the Hershey Red Cross with special musical numbers between acts.
William S. Hart, acclaimed western star, appears as Silent Budd Marr at Hershey Central Theatre on Saturday March 2. Marr battles a dishonest gang to save the woman he loves and recover his strike while performing daring feats of strength horsemanship and marksmanship.
Bruce Barton appeals for the third Liberty Loan tying it to wartime horrors in Malines and Campenhout. He argues bonds are essential to protect women and children, asserting the fight is for ideals and safety, not national gains, and condemns officers who drank and sang as civilians suffered.
Crowds filled the Hershey Department Store for the Washington's Birthday Chop Down Sale drawing buyers from Palmyra Hummelstown Elizabethtown Campbelltown and Lebanon. The store ran into thousands of dollars in sales across all departments and a patriotic concert closed the day with community spirit and busy counters.
All Hershey families who want to plant war gardens must submit applications to Jno. F. Snavely at the Hershey Men's Club by Saturday March 9. Boys and girls seeking smaller war gardens are also asked to apply.
