Three local high schools Hershey Palmyra and Hummelstown will jointly edit the Press with each school handling one weekly issue. Editors in chief and staffs chosen will oversee sections and features chosen by students for the upcoming editions.
The Y M C A announces committee chairmen for the coming year. Religious work Rev O G Romig, membership J R Snavely, educational A W Snavely, lecture and entertainment P N Kason, gymnasium J E Hills, outdoor sports William Klein, music W R Wick, house F B Snavely, finance E F Hershey.
New engines have just been installed in the factory engine room. Each engine provides 250 horsepower and the design follows an auto engine plan, marking a new design approach for the plant.
The Hershey Chocolate Company plans new quarters for its office staff within weeks. The south building will house the president and treasurer and their assistants, the north building the sales manager and aides, and the middle building the remainder of the office force. Mahogany furnishings are to be used in the revamped spaces.
The Hershey press announces a forthcoming census to determine town population. It notes Hershey’s rapid growth and the lack of a definite count, with work nearing completion as estimates become precise.
Census figures list 718 residents on and south of Chocolate avenue excluding the Inn and Y M C A dormitory. The local authorities plan a complete directory publishing every inhabitant once the census is finished for distribution.
On Fasnacht Day residents prepared a liberal supply of doughnuts and fasnachts. The Press thanks Mrs. G C Wolfersberger for sending a box from Campbelltown and notes early trouble delivering them. A baby boy born to Mr and Mrs Bert Fasnacht of Union Deposit is mentioned as a possible answer to a joke question.
A new garage at the Hershey Park entrance is nearing completion with space already used by Hershey Chocolate Company and Mr M S Hershey. A large dining room and dormitories on upper floors will be managed by the Y W C A but will not be ready for some time.
Program from last week's Press lists a Hershey Band concert to be held Thursday evening February 29 at the Park Amphitheater. Gates open at 8 o'clock with admission 25 cents and reserved seats 35 cents. Seat chart available at the Hershey store starting Monday January 26.
The new slaughter house near Chocolate Avenue behind the stables is nearing completion. It measures 82 by 70 feet and two stories high with a 12 by 16 boiler room and a 10 by 12 smoke house. Built of hollow tile and cement, it is fireproof throughout with a 36 by 60 stock yard stable and a 70 by 70 warehouse foundation.
The Hershey M C A basketball team plans three games this season with other Harrisburg area schools. March 1 at St Paul Harrisburg. March 15 P R R Ys M C A of Harrisburg. March 22 Monarch A G of Harrisburg. Games will be at Hershey with March 8 22 and April 5 open.
