Unique Arctic Trip Opens With Fram Drift Plan
Captain Amundsen leads the Fram on a seven year voyage to the North Pole by locking in ice and drifting with currents. The expedition aims to map the polar basin, study currents and temperatures, and use new instruments to probe three miles below the surface. The Fram previously carried Nansen toward the pole.
