A severe Saturday storm with constant lightning hit Israel Moyer’s large barn above Derry Church near Hershey. Aaron Blough and Harry Leed were stunned by a lightning strike. the barn, one of the area’s finest, burned to a mass of flames with losses estimated around 10 000 dollars. Cattle and crops were saved or destroyed, and the barn will be rebuilt with temporary shelters for livestock. Nearby Hershey fire units aided, and additional barns in southern Pennsylvania burned in the storm.

Hershey Free Public Library, founded a few years ago in Hershey store building, has expanded rapidly. By January 1, 1915 membership reached 1580 and volumes 2296. The summer saw 24 new shelves and a new bulletin board. The Information Bureau increased visitors and factory tours drew large crowds with multiple guide staff. Notable daily excursion numbers and a jump in circulation reflect the library’s growing community service. Recent acquisitions include encyclopedias, religion, sociology, fine arts, and other subjects, supplementing ongoing growth.
