At its Tuesday meeting the Hershey Volunteer Fire Company received thanks from Israel Moyer and Isaac Basehore for the August 27 fire effort. Moyer sent a substantial check to boost the apparatus fund. Officers for the October annual meeting were proposed including President Brinker and Chief Conrad. The late fair netted about 650 dollars, totaling over 800 dollars for apparatus improvements. A committee led by Chief Conrad, Assistant Chief Snavely and W G Ashenfelter will report at the October meeting on fund use.

Fatal ride to Hershey ends in tragic jump
Frederick Geffken twenty four of York died when he jumped from the trucks running board in front of the left rear wheel near Chickies tollgate Marietta while en route for a Labor Day picnic. The driver James I Martin of York was arrested. Geffken had recent trouble and returned home from a year in the West leaving five brothers and four sisters surviving.
