Mechanics Picnic at Hershey Plants Sees 16th Rainless Year
The Hershey Chocolate Corporation mechanical department held its annual picnic at Palmyra Sportsmen Club grounds near Coffeytown. Weather stayed fair for the 16th straight year, with 600 ham sandwiches served and ten retired employees joining active workers for the event. The gathering began in 1936, paused during World War II, and has continued as a regular May or June affair reliant on a devoted picnic committee led by Early J. Look.

Hershey Gets New Fire Sirens In Upgraded System
Hershey will replace the old five-horsepower siren with two new ten-horsepower units to improve alerting. The sirens, arriving within a month, will be placed atop the machine shop at Hershey Lumber Products and the east end of the Hershey Chocolate Corporation plant. Each unit will have seven outlets and emit a low-pitched tone. One siren is funded by Hershey Estates and the other by Hershey Chocolate Corporation, with installation costs covered by the fire company. Tests will follow once installed.
