Walter Douglas Heads New Optimist Club
The Hershey Optimist Club was organized at a dinner meeting with 27 charter members. Officers are Walter Douglas president Ray Dietz first vice president Harold Riegle second vice president John A Zimmerman Jr secretary treasurer, with Charles Bible and Harold Riegle as board members. Meetings are the first and third Wednesdays. Guest speaker J L Bechtel of Lebanon spoke on Aims and Purposes of Optimism.

Hershey Community Club tennis team lost the first three singles but won the last three to beat Camp Hill and sweep the doubles. The win keeps their streak at 21 as they prepare for Inter-County League action at Manheim and a Lehigh Valley League match against Reading Monarchs. Hershey Chocolate Corporation reports a May surge in plant tours with 14 377 visitors guided through the chocolate plant. Most visitors were school groups from Pennsylvania and nearby states, aided by nine guides during peak hours. Daily totals are higher on many days of the season.

Five Hershey state police troopers train for the pistol shooting championship to be held Saturday at the training school range. Competitors include Sgt. Leon Wrona Pvt. Charles Gosford Pvt. Glenn Barron Pvt. George W. Boyer and Cpl. Walter Dean. Five teams from four squadrons and the Training School vie for the team high score and the top individual scorer to be named force champion for the year.
