Music For Picnickers At Hershey Park By Retired Employees
The Hershey Retired Employees Association held its July park picnic Monday in Hershey Park. Melvin Deets led a string ensemble that played familiar songs and hymns and accompanied group singing for 114 attendees. Paul Ferry presided over the business session as emcee, Rev. Harvey Light spoke on the meaning of years, and Irvin Spancake led songs while Aaron Gerlach gave the invocation. Lizzie Spangler chaired the refreshments as Ladies of the organization served.

The Hershey Estates campaign reported 119 new U S Savings Bonds subscribers and 53 payroll participants increasing their bond purchases. President John Sollenberger and campaign chairman Marlin Balsbaugh praised the effort while noting nine more subscribers needed to reach 50 percent participation.

Garrison to Defend State Public Links Title in Hershey
Paul Garrison of Hershey Park Club defends his Pennsylvania Public Golf title at the 23rd annual tourney in Hershey July 24 to 26. He won last year with 299 total for 72 holes and is a two time champion. The Hershey club also aims to defend the team title as four members rank among lowest 36-hole aggregates. The format features 18 holes on Thursday and Friday and 36 holes on Saturday.

Hershey post office retires long-serving mails supervisor
AMOS H. LEHMAN retires as superintendent of mails at the Hershey Post Office on April 30 after forty years in the postal service. He began as a regular car rider and served Hershey homes and businesses for 24 years. He joined as a postal clerk on February 1, 1942 and became superintendent October 1, 1951. He received a letter and citation for esteemed service from Postmaster General Arthur Summerfield. He was born near Bachmanville, lived in Hershey 28 years, and has resided at Union Deposit for 12 years. He is married to Blanche Espenshade.
