Christian Endeavorers plan a bakery sale at the A B Smith ring room on Sept 28. Several residents share news of family visits, health, and small accidents, including Bard’s thigh injury from a hay loading mishap and updates on local housing and farming activities.
A quiet Sept 10 1914 wedding at 319 North Hirth avenue Maywood Cook County Illinois united Sara Adaline Fawcett and Oscar H. Davis in a ceremony by Rev. William C Way Miss Winifred Cline and Margaret Fawcett performed music and ring bearing The couple will reside with Mr Daviss parents on Richard Street after a wedding trip to Chicago Worth Walworth and Wisconsin resorts The Republican also reports William Rambo and Elsa M Harris wed at Peoria with plans to reside in Henry Illinois.
The Henry Chautauqua association held its annual meeting at City Hall electing L R Phillips as president and a 12 member board including R S Bayne Carl Hallfarth and H B Jacobs. A winter lecture course of five numbers is planned with Mrs Bia Meier Wood selling tickets season passes cost 1.26 adults 75 cents children single admission 35 cents.
Sabbath school at 9 45 a m and regular services at noon and 7 30 p m. Christian Endeavor rally planned next Sabbath. Endeavorers to hold a passing sale next Saturday Sept 28 at Mr Smith's undertaking room. Members urged to attend and assist with church repairs and a tax meeting scheduled Friday at 9 o'clock.
Senator Frank Funk the progressive ticket candidate for governor of Illinois will deliver an address in Lacon Saturday at 3 o'clock. He is accompanied by Dr. Winmus a candidate for Congress in the 16th district. The meeting aims to discuss live progressive issues at the Counsecl court-house with market quotations for yellow corn and mixed feed.
The season ended with Pekin facing Henry at Pavilion Park last Sunday in a 15 inning game seen as disappointing. Henry fielded a strong lineup while Pekin used a scrub squad and four regulars, dampening expectations for a World Series like showdown. Bluejacket, touted as the league's best pitcher, underperformed as Henry gave Pekin a strenuous workout.
