William Edward Jacobs born April 13 1856 in Juniata County Pennsylvania died September 10 1912 at about 11 oclock. He lived in Illinois later moving to Whitefield and Henry Marshall County. He was a farmer machinist and carpenter respected in the community. He leaves a wife and son Thomas and four children Ruby Edward Willis and Thomas. two sons died young. Funeral held at Henry M E Church with Rev Vivian officiating and many relatives present. A large funeral tribute followed with thanks to attendees and to Rev Vivian and Mrs Vivian.
Ellicott Brewster Green born Saratoga Springs N Y November 22 1848 died at a Peoria hospital September 15 1912 after a long illness a stroke of palsy. He married Charlotte King in 1868 and lived near Varna until February 26 1912 then moved to Henry. Survived by his wife three daughters his 94 year old mother in Enid Oklahoma and one brother. Funeral by Rev Dr B G Carpenter at Prof King’s residence with burial at Myers cemetery near Varna.
Magnolia lodge No. 103 A F and A M drapes its charter in mourning for 30 days in honor of Henry McDermott. A copy of the resolutions is spread on lodge records and sent to the deceased’s sisters BH R Spencer GA Morphew and Robert A Wards as tokens of sympathy.
The bishop of the diocese will be here for a service this Thursday evening at 7 30. All are cordially invited. Also planned is an event at the bishop’s residence with brief remarks and the description and history of the old North Church Boston by Rev Bancroft Whipple.
Grace Cheyne Steele, wife of James Steele and founder resident of Henry, Illinois, died at 4 30 Sunday afternoon at her home 501 St James Street Peoria aged 45 after a two year illness from internal cancer An operation briefly relieved her but she gradually declined She was born in County Londonderry Ireland and left for America in 1893 to marry James Steele The couple lived in Henry Wenona and Peoria and had five children Anna Mae John Cheyne Isabella Jane James Alexander and William who died in infancy Survived by husband five brothers and three sisters in Ireland and Peoria many friends mourn her loss Funeral services were held at 10 o clock Tuesday at the family residence conducted by Dr Percival of St Pauls Episcopal Church and the body sent to Henry for interment
Weather forecast looks good for next week as Magnolia Grange Fair unveils enhanced entertainment. The Lostants and Magnolia bands will perform with the Ricketts quartet for vocal music on Wednesday and Thursday. Political speakers from Prohibition, Republican, Progressive, and Democrat parties are announced for afternoons and evenings, with party nominees expected to be named soon. Baseball battles between the Giants are slated for Thursday and Friday afternoons.
Rev. Fr. Gensler announces forty hours devotion starts next Sunday the 22d with an 8 o'clock mass procession and perpetual exposition. Priests from other cities assist. confessions for men Sunday and Monday. women confessions Tuesday morning. special sermons English and German. benediction and closing procession.
The M. E. Church reports seven new members, two adults and five youths, and notes a strong morning service. Future events include baptism at 41 o clock, Sunday school at 9 45 a m, Epworth League at 6 30 p m, and a temperance address by Rev Whipple under the W C T U.
Improvement at St Josephs Church continues with three new altars and a communion rail now in place. Electric lights fixtures and frescoing progress as light oak seating and sanctuary carpet await arrival. Dedication by Rt Rev Bishop Dunne of Peoria may occur in October. Baptism of infant child of Mr and Mrs Andrew Merdian took place last Sunday.
Mrs. Reichel and her young daughter Neva arrived from Eureka to visit Sunday services with Rev. Raichel. The church crowds grew with five visitors and the choir planned to sing, as neighbors noted the warm reception and lingering calls after afternoon services.
Mrs. Henry Mohler left for Tliskilwa and Mrs. George Stanton visited relatives in Hennepin. Rev. Landenberger preached in Henry, Mildred Stever plans Champaign study, and families journeyed to Indiana and Peoria.
