Ran kin Forbes took Charles McManus Louis Applegate and Ora Baker for a ride in a Buick touring car last Thursday. The car sped up Edward street to about thirty miles an hour then crashed into a shade tree. Forbes Applegate and Baker were injured. all escaped with only slight injuries and the car will be shipped to the factory for repairs.
A through coal train derailed near the engine area after a break rod loosened on a coal car causing wheels to derail. Workers cleared the wreck, the damaged car was removed by crane, and coal was dumped beside the track. Branch traffic was delayed about two hours.
Mrs Lois A Blanchard Wood born Ellisburg Jefferson County New York December 25 1823 married Timothy Wood July 29 1848. Began westward trek in 1848 settling near Fort Gibson later Plano and Hall's Landing before moving to Senachwine Lake area. Died December 20 1906 at age 88 with large landholdings divided among her children. Funeral at her son Charles Wood's homestead with Rev. Thomas officiating.
Obituary notes Mrs Sarah Jane Rogers died Sept 26 at the home of Mrs R Newton after a brief illness from diabetes. Born Nov 12 1836 in Manchester Pa she would have been 76. She married E My Rogers in 1861 and had two children. a son Will Rogers of Fremont, and a daughter who died in infancy. Funeral held at the M church with Rev William Conel Bluffs officiating. She left a son, a brother Gil Hoat of Menwood, and a sister Mrs Brunall of Philadelphia. She moved west in 1862 to Red Oak then to this city.
Illinois Traction plans to extend its line to Joliet by acquiring the Joliet and Southern Traction system or securing traffic rights. A through route for heavy trains may run from Rockdale along the Elgin Joliet and Western to a north of city junction. Joliet and Southern securities have been reorganized by Chicago bankers, with Illinois Traction expected to join the plan. Judge Wright of Toulon retires due to illness and his family heritage noted. community notices call for church services and Sunday school attendance.
