Henry Library to Collect City Water Bills

Water bills for Henry will be mailed and collected at the Henry Public Library basement. The library will handle collections for the first time since 1972, with payment hours on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday afternoons and the 20th of the month as a discount deadline.

State Engineer Outlines Route 29 Widening Plans

Reuben M. Johnson of the Peoria office describes Route 29 improvements from Peoria to beyond Sparland. Plans include a divided four foot parkway Peoria to the sanitarium and a 22 foot new lane Mossville to Chillioothe with existing pavement retained for local traffic. Widening to 40 feet is planned in Chillicothe and right of way surveys proceed north to Sparland with future work toward Henry and beyond.

Allis-Chalmers Baby Harvester Demonstration Near Lacon

Dealer C Long will demonstrate the Allis-Chalmers baby harvester Saturday July 1 at the W Casey farm one mile east of Lacon. The unit cuts three feet four inches per stroke and with tractor power can harvest an acre per hour. Priced at 345, the device aims to solve harvest labor by enabling single ownership for farmers with up to 100 acres of small grains beans and weeds.

Sparland Corn Makes Fine Showing at Farm Bureau

Dave Freeman of the Marshall Putnam Farm Bureau reports Sparland area corn from the Robert Fringle farm near Sparland shows strong growth. The 80 acre Whee field, planted six weeks ago, stands shoulder high and tassels forming. Farmers note Moews hybrid seed as top choice in the Putnam group.

Mrs William Blackburn of Lacon Dies After Illness

Mrs William Blackburn 61 of Lacon died at 9 15 Wednesday June 28 after several weeks illness. Born June 6 1878 in Milo Township Bureau County she was the daughter of Lyman Loomis and Mrs Loomis. She was married to William Blackburn and they farmed in Whitefield Township before moving to Lacon. Survived by husband two daughters Mrs Minnie Hollér and Mrs Virginia Guede of Lacon and three sons Alvin Washburn William and Harold of Lacon three brothers Howard Marseilles Alden Tacon and John Whitefield. Funeral services Saturday at 2 pm from the Lacon residence with Rev Claude Temple officiating burial in Lacon Cemetery under Ehringer funeral service of Lacon.

Harney Reports Abundant Bass at Lake Senachwine

Retired Henry school teacher and fisherman Fred Harney says Lake Senachwine has many bass. He brought home six bass last night and caught six bags Tuesday, with one weighing three and a half pounds. He notes clear water and urges river pollution prevention.
