Tragic Accidental Shooting Claims Sparland Boy
Eight year old Charles Edward McQuilken of La Prairie township was accidentally shot and killed while playing cowboy and Indian with his 13 year old cousin Jimmie Dean from Washington D C. They used a .22 caliber rifle found loaded with a shell. The gun discharged killing the child instantly. an inquest ruled the death accidental. The boy attended Blue Ridge school and was born in La Prairie township in 1925.

Work on Road Resumed as Cement War Ends
Illinois announced the purchase of 2,000,000 barrels of cement at 1.44 a barrel, allowing Route 89 C from Henry to Magnolia to restart. Shanks Construction of Watseka manages the project with local workers and a riverfront unloading platform was built to receive gravel and materials from barges.

Henry to Run Free Ferry Over Illinois River
Henry city officials reached a compromise with merchants and the state highway department to operate two ferries on the Illinois River at no cost to the public. The state will supply and rent the ferry, while the town funds dredging and maintenance with monthly merchant contributions. A 83 by 18 foot ferry with 35 horsepower motor, capable of 16 cars per trip, is to be ordered and placed here soon.
