Woolen Mill at Lacon Still Closed Amid Sit-Down Rumors
A group of about 10 percent of Lacon Woolen Mill workers, backed by John L. Lewis affiliated organizers, triggered a sit-down threat that closed the plant for more than a week. Manager Lowell Grieves cites orders on hand justifying one shift and notes enough inventory to supply trade for a long period. The mill employs about 275, with a local union drive forming and petitions circulatied to resume operations, possibly on seniority.

Funeral services for Mrs. Karoline Schiffbauer will be held at her residence Saturday at 10 a.m. with Rev. John D. Kruwel officiating. Burial will be in the family lot. She was born in Dillenburg Germany April 11 1881 and died June 3 1937 at age 86. She leaves two sons Hans E Schiffbauer and Paul P Schiffbauer a daughter Gretchen a granddaughter Louise and a sister Miss Helene Otto.

Kroger Company purchases the Larkin system, including two Marshall County stores at Henry and Lacon, to take effect Monday. Marshall Putnam Fair Completes Ground Grading and Upgrades
Grading and leveling of the Marshall Putnam Fair grounds at Henry were finished by GC L Swords of Peoria using a Diesel Caterpillar and Le Tourneau excavator. More than a thousand yards of dirt moved, drainage improved, space opened for concessions, and plans for a new horse barn and relocated ting lehouse discussed. The fair, in its 16th year, aims to attract more exhibits with raised premiums and better facilities, aided by volunteers and local donors.
