Henry City Council pledges substantial backing for a three day July Fourth celebration to rival prior big events. A $100 cash contribution and efforts to clear streets for attractions accompany plans to host Bureau County WPA concert, river races, and multiple dances with a final fireworks display.
A damaged OCR fragment reports plans for the Mill o reopening on Monday after disruptions. It mentions employee shifts, family provisions, and a return to operation by the Illinois a ied Telephone Company serving Sheff ld and nearby towns.
The Ohio River Company towboat E. D. Kenna is laid up ten days at Joliet for boiler repairs while the Kenton from Henry repairs in place and substitutes for the Kenna. The Montgomery escorted the Tom Sawyer cargo to Chicago. River trade through Henry this summer boosts local shops as boat crews visit grocers, a department store, a dentist and cleaners, with orders and restocks made in Henry.
Funeral services for Mrs Belle Horrom were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 at the home of her niece near Magnolia. Rev Keith Loveless officiated with Mrs Bess Davidson and Mrs Helen Stratton singing. Burial was in Henry City Cemetery beside her husband. Pallbearers included Henry Bell William Heinrich Charles Hofer and others.
The old Whitefield Methodist church, dating to about 1876, will be sold at public auction next Monday afternoon for church or other uses. The sale is announced by residents Harry Monroe and Leon Fosdick. The church has hosted 20 large services in recent years, with Sunday school held until about three years ago.

A Swaney High School alumni banquet launched a movement to place a memorial plaque on Benjamin Lundy’s grave in Quaker Cemetery near Mcc Nabb Putnam County and form a permanent historical body on the pioneer abolitionist. Dr B Q Dysart chairs the committee. Henry figures Hans A Otto and Mrs Katie Griffith named as early members with documents and letters aiding the project. Lundy born 1789 in Hardwich New Jersey, lived in Ohio and Illinois publishing anti slavery papers. influenced William Lloyd Garrison and Elijah Lovejoy cases.
The WPA Rural Sanitation project in Marshall County begins June 14 with a crew of ten men. Henry George E nona serves as superintendent and the team transfers from the Henry city project. The initiative is sponsored by Illinois State Department of Public Health.
Henry City Council discussed expanding parking to near the business district. The streets and alleys committee will study municipal lots, including Travis property and the Duke lot behind Hotel Henry, for free parking and required site work. Mayor Ford also backs three new signs promoting Henry as The Best Town in Miners by a Dam Site.
Bank receiver Janssen, with J M Barnes of Lacon, visited Peoria to confer with bank holders and George Hunt on selling the Henry Nation building. He is optimistic a settlement of the bank's 365 000 note will finish, enabling a public auction of the bank building soon after. Washington has authorized proceeding on this plan and depositors may inquire for full details.
Rev. Fr. D. K. Harrington resigns as pastor of St. Joseph's Henry due to ill health. He reads his last Mass June 20 after 49 years as priest, aged 73, with a storied career in Ireland France Australia Ireland and the United States. He donated a 2700‑volume library to the Dominican Fathers in River Forest.
Francis Britton a Wisconson Bridge & Iron Company worker on the Henry bridge project escaped death when a crane toppled into a cofferdam 20 feet deep. He jumped to safety and suffered neck burns and bruises but returned to work after two days off.
Free garbage removal service started in Henry this week by Elmer Hartzler a farmer between Tiskilwa and Henry. He distributed galvanized pails and a truckload of garbage cans to homes to maintain twice weekly service at no cost. The high pork market benefits Henry housewives while Princeton and Tiskilwa already have garbage removal. The Henry Public Library hours are Monday Wednesday and Saturday 1 to 5 pm.
Five Pottawatomie from Mayetta Kansas travel to George Wheeler farm near Putnam en Route 28 for Sunday June 18 memorial honors. The event, led by the George Rogers Clark Chapter S A R Peoria, includes unveiling a bronze plaque with address by P G Rennick of Peoria and remarks by Illinois Historical Society and state librarians. The program features a banner, pledge, prayers, music, and solos, with guests from Illinois and Iowa historical circles.
Marshall County receives 2289.56 and Putnam County 693.82 from motor fuel tax allocations for May as Governor Horner reports. Total state allotment amounts to 1,021,624.80 with reserves of 207,000 for relief bonds and 80,260.21 for interest on other bonds.
