The 70 year old Lacon Woolen Mills employing about 270 workers shut its doors after weeks of activity by C I O organizers. John Malone led local pro C I O efforts while management cited the sit down and organized pressure as the reason for closure. The company statement pledged no compulsory union membership and promised to consider merit and fair wages as talks proceed.

Camp Grove girl wins 15000 damage verdict in Peoria
Four hour jury verdict awarded Ellen Louise Kelley of Camp Grove 15000 from Public Service Co of Northern Illinois for burns suffered when an electric switch inside a well house allegedly ignited gas. Her father sued for 25000 alleging negligence and improper equipment. Ellen spent 15 months in St Francis Hospital Peoria.

Poppy Day Observed in Henry With Poppies Distribution
World War veterans and American Legion Auxiliary units mobilize to produce and distribute more than ten million poppies during May. An army of volunteers, 100000 strong, will wear and hand out the flowers to honor the war dead while supporting veterans welfare programs. Henry Unit No 223 will distribute poppies all day on Saturday May 29.
