Cadell Cadell Camp Grove Dent Dies

Cadell, 75, of 830 Twenty Street Rock Island, died Wednesday at Moline Public Hospital following a two month illness. A ticket agent and operator for the Chicago North Western railroad, he lived in Camp Grove eight years. He was born May 28 in Galadstone Illinois, son of Patrick and Mary Cadell. Married Martha in Rock Island in 19__, he was a member of the Catholic Church. Survived by his widow, five daughters, three sisters, and two brothers. Funeral from the Rock Island funeral home to the Catholic Church in Grove Friday morning. burial in the church cemetery.

Returned Veteran Laid To Rest In Toluca

Funeral services for Mr. LeRoy T. Modro were held in Toluca with full military honors from the Toluca American Legion post. Modro enlisted in 1944, served at Blanding and Fort Meade, and was killed in action in March 1945 with the Third Division. He is buried in a U.S. military cemetery in France.

New Bus Service Plans Peoria Caterpillar Worker Shuttles

A phased bus service for Caterpillar workers begins with four daily round trips between Henry and Peoria. Walter Winkler of Lacon serves as general manager. Routes depart Henry at 10:00 am and 10:39 am, with returns at 4:15 pm and 8:10 pm, serving depots near the downtown area.

The M. P. Christmas Seal Sale reports show progress ahead of last year with $1 315 40 raised across two counties. Quota is $3 500 though many townships have yet to report and complete. The sale is run by the Marshall Putnam Tuberculosis and Public Health Association and Home Bureau with chairmen from clubs schools and units urging timely contributions.

Lacon Man Crowned County Corn Growing Champion

Lacon resident Klein has been named 1948 Marshall County corn growing champion for a five acre plot yielding 13553 bushels per acre. The county winner advances to state and national DeKalb contests with Leslie Quinn and Gilbert Storm also posting high yields in the county.

A new light atop Harney Hill on Hartney Street was welcomed by residents. Mrs. D. G. DeWar, a top-of-hill resident, expressed gratitude for the city council and others responsible for the installation.

Granville-Farmer Charles Fiedler Dies by Inquest Verdict

Charles Richard Fiedler 58 a Granville farmer was found hanging in his brother’s garage near Granville at 6 p m Monday. An inquest by Coroner A O Birgerson found death by his own action with no motive disclosed. Fiedler a World War I veteran served in France and was a longtime Granville American Legion post member and former post commander. He is survived by three brothers Elmer Oscar and Harold. funeral services were held at the Dysart Funeral Chapel Granville with military rites by the American Legion and burial in the Granville cemetery.

Rotary Club program promotes sharing war era experiences

Henry Rotary Club heard members recount embarrassing moments and first jobs while guests from nearby towns attended. The club unveiled a new bulletin board and outlined plans to send CARE packages and clothing to former Rotary members in Europe and to youths from Henry Senachwine High School as guests at meetings.

Mrs Van Petten Dies at Farmington

Nellie Van Petten 58 died at her home east of Farmington at 11 30 pm Monday. Born Bloomington July 16 1890 she was daughter of George and Lillian Shimper wife of William Van Petten. Survived by daughter Audrey of Farmington a son I am of Peoria four grandchildren her mother Lil Han Shimp Sparland a brother Edward Shimp Edelstein and four sisters Mrs George Wiley Sparland. Brumm Family Visits Henry From Streator Monday

Mr and Mrs Kenneth E Brumm and son Steve visited Henry on Monday after spending Christmas with his parents in Streator. Brumm, former coach and now principal of a Marshall Ill district high school, reports steady school work and a new building addition. The Marshall unit district was reorganized last year and territory lines have since stabilized for local satisfaction.

Toluca Man Fatally Injured in Auto Crash East of Rutland

Two other victims of the crash near Rutland were hospitalized with serious injuries. Herman Bendlin died at St Mary’s Hospital in Streator from a skull fracture and crushing injuries. Oscar Bendlin and Mrs Winkel, among others, sustained injuries as the car swerved after a blowout and hit a culvert. Funeral services for Herman Bendlin were set for Friday at the family home and St John’s Lutheran Church.

Home Bureau Training School Set at Marshall County

Mrs. Helen Schilf of the University Illinois Extension Service will lead a home bureau training school in Marshall Putnam Counties. The event starts Thursday at 1 30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Farm Bureau building. Schilf is a former home adviser now on the State staff making her first visit to the counties.

Lacon Post Office Christmas Rush Records Report

Lacon postmaster Morris Dunn reports December sales at the office were among the busiest. One cent stamps totalled 34 000, 1 1/2 cent stamps 648, 3 cent stamps 19 000, for total December sales of 51 553. Duck stamps in 1948 reached 316 versus 270 the prior year. Over time during the rush, staff provided appreciated service to the public.
