City moves forward with hotel site study at mill property

City officials outline a plan to recruit a 100 room boutique hotel at the old mill site on Fourth Avenue East and Grove Street, with a 6 p.m. October 18 meeting at the City Operations Center to discuss the project. The study, begun last year with UNC-affiliated consultants, identified the mill as a strong location and envisions adaptive reuse of the historic building. The city recently acquired an abandoned Fourth Avenue West house behind the mill and envisions public improvements along Fourth Avenue to create a walkable route to Main Street while the private developer purchases city land and covers restoration costs.
