St John dedicates cross to nameless slave graves at historic church
In Flat Rock the Episcopal St John in the Wilderness dedicates a hand carved granite cross to honor about 100 enslaved and unnamed graves on its north lawn. Bishop Porter Taylor urges courage and hope to confront past sins and honor those buried without names. Descendants of slaves and slave owners attend the ceremony as the community reflects on reconciliation.
