Scholarships Awarded to Seven Hearne Students
Several Hearne school pupils received scholarships and awards as the year closed. American Legion awards went to Charlotte Brawley and John Wilson at junior high, and to Karan Russ and Bobby Batson in the high school senior class. Betty Birdwell and Miss Russ earned Advanced Placement in Freshman English. Ron J. Shaw won a 3200 grant from Texas A&M University, payable 800 yearly for four years. Milton Strong received offers from Sam Houston State College and Arlington State College, choosing Arlington State as drum major.

Five Hearne Boys To Attend Camp Hoblitzelle
Five Hearne youths Franky Degelia Kenny Gentry Robert Boone Gene Lehoski and James Sargeon will attend the Salvation Army Camp Hoblitzelle near Dallas from June 5 to 12. T. H. Stotts, local Salvation Army chairman, says transportation by bus will be provided and all expenses paid by the Salvation Army.

Supt G G Grant and Dr Ray Cruse presided at Hearne High School graduation where the Alma Mater was sung and valedictorian Kathleen Cotropia delivered the benediction. The class included Judy Alford Marvin Armstrong Bobby Batson Betty Birdwell and many others. Overnight guests included Port Arthur and Ennis relatives. Mrs Hattie Elia Campbell of Houston visited with Mrs Horlock and relatives from Corpus Christi joined for the weekend.
