ARC Reminds Citizens of Goals Accomplished

Robertson County Association for Retarded Citizens highlights progress from the past year at the activity center on Fourth Street. They cite greater awareness of disabled citizens, donated time and materials, three state awards, 100 hours of volunteer service, bake sale support, and arts and crafts sales at flea markets and fairs. President Mrs James Florence urges new and continuing membership to expand services in January.

Bullock Names Bryan Manager

Comptroller Bob Bullock announced Friday January 2 he has appointed Don Williams as manager of his Bryan district office effective immediately. Williams was already on the job having joined the comptroller's office in March 1975 after working for the Legislative Budget Board. He taught at Austin Community College and holds a psychology degree from North Texas State University and a master's in psychology and statistics from the University of Texas.

Retired Teachers To Hold Meetings

The Robertson County Retired Teachers Association will meet January 12 at 2 p.m. in the Hearne Community Center. Steve Polansky from Dallas will summarize the National Retired Teachers Association insurance program and answer questions. Individual help offered after the program. Defensive Driving Course taught January 14 and 15 at 12 30 p.m. in the center by Floyd Tippit for association members.

Wallace Will Not Seek Another Term as District Judge

Judge W C Wallace announced January 2 that he will not seek reelection as district judge. He said he decided some time ago and told the Robertson and Milam Counties bar and court officers. He expressed sadness but gratitude for the people's support since January 1961.

ASC Committee Members Listed

The Robertson County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Committee for the year will be composed of John C. Reistino as chairman Carroll I. Bashinski as vice chairman and Taylor Morgan as regular member. Lawrence Cotropia and Lilo Edwards were elected last month as committee alternates for one year. Jerry D. Holmes is the executive director of the office in Franklin.

Cattle Outlook Sees Gains By 1977 For Texas Ranchers

A&M University livestock specialist predicts a brighter cattle market by 1977 if cow slaughter remains high this year and replacement heifers stay scarce. He warns producers to cut costs and cover variable expenses around 75 to 115 dollars per cow while avoiding further land or labor investments until demand increases.

New Voter Certificates Mailed By January 31

Tax Assessor-Collector Rob ert H Stellbauer said his Robertson County office will mail new voter certificates to all residents registered as of January 31. Certificates valid through 1978, with an optional information form to update rolls per the new law. After March 1 only the blue certificates will be valid for voting.

Robertson County Commissioners to Meet in Franklin January 12

The Robertson County Commissioners Court will hold its regular monthly meeting Monday January 12 at the Franklin Courthouse. Proceedings begin at 10 a.m. with approval of December 8 1975 minutes, payment of bills, and a highway patrol request to purchase moving radar equipment. Public Hearing on Hearne EMSA Funds Meeting

The Hearne district advisory committee for the Emergency School Aid Act held a public hearing January 5 at 5 pm in the superintendent’s office to discuss the 1976 77 federal funding application. The committee unanimously voted to apply for funds to maintain current programs and add remedial reading and mathematics efforts at Junior High and improve the accelerated reading program at Hearne High School. Ten attendees asked questions about the program and EMSA objectives.

Alexander Chavez was the first baby of 1976 born in Germany at six minutes past midnight January 1. He arrived at the United States Army Hospital in Mannheim as the son of Buddy Chavez and his German wife Ingrid. His grandparents and relatives are listed in Bryan Hearne and Cavez families.

Plans Made To Improve Wheelock Road Near Hearne

Hearne area engineers from the Texas Highway Department outline plans to upgrade Farm Road 39 east of Hearne for about 0.3 miles. A 40 foot curb and gutter road with grade reduction, along with widening of the Lost Creek Bridge, aim to reduce local accidents. A public meeting at the Hearne Highway Department office on January 13 at 10 a.m. will explain the project and its impact to landowners. Robertson County Commissioners Court backs the project.
