Mental Health Center Created For Residents

The Central Brazos Valley Mental Health Center at 405 28th Street Bryan serves seven counties including Robertson. It is a licensed private psychiatry facility offering outpatient and inpatient services, counseling, testing, therapy, day care, emergency 24 hour access, and alcohol and drug services. Referral and walk in access with services scaled to ability to pay. Over 4,000 patients treated last year. subsidies from federal and state funds and local contributions.

Christmas Day Dinner Gathered in Calvert Family Home

Rainfall spent Christmas Day with Mrs. Bob Jamison in Calvert bringing together her daughter and family from Houston including Kenneth Warfield and Ken Warfield Jr. Also present were Jamison relatives from Hearne Milam County and Houston along with Dan McArthur. Dr. Walter Pyle and wife visited from Nashville to see their son Walter Lee Alan and family near Calvert.

Quarantined To Stop Spread Of Brucellosis

The U S Department of Agriculture will quarantine Texas to halt brucellosis spread effective January 5 and remove county certifications. Texas noncompliance with eradication rules leads to halted indemnity payments and loss of federal testing funding. Quarantine targets qualified herds with two negative tests and tight testing for interstate movement.

Hearne Youth Shot Sunday in Accidental Hunting Incident

Donald Cooper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Cooper of Hearne, remained in stable condition Monday after a bullet wound to the stomach from a 22 rifle misfire while hunting with James Chandler. Cooper was first treated at Robertson County Community Hospital and transferred to Scott and White Hospital in Temple.

Hearne City Council Approves HDA Plan and Rate Cut

Hearne voters and officials backed the second year Hearne Development Agency plan at a Monday meeting with all members present. The council granted a 10 percent monthly electrical charge reduction for Hearne Public Schools and approved buying a Burroughs Le0ee series billing machine for about 61 000 using revenue sharing funds.

Employment Commission Will Move Bryan Office

The Bryan office of the Texas Employment Commission will relocate to 601 East 20th Street around January 15 due to rapid growth. The current facility at 409 North Texas Avenue has served since 1960, with Brenham closed in 1964 and Washington County added. The Bryan TEC covers Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson, and Washington counties, offering itinerant service to Brenham on Tue Thu and in Navasota on Tue. The TEC, established by the 1936 Legislature, aims to place the unemployed and provide unemployment insurance, plus counseling, testing, and vocational training at no cost.
