Clayton To Speak At Presnal Special Dinner

Speaker of the House Bill Clayton will appear as guest speaker at the dinner honoring Rep Bill Presnal January 16 at 6 30 pm in Duncan Dining Hall on the A M University campus. Tickets in Robertson County may be purchased at local banks and businesses.

Franklin School To Offer Class For Women

A women’s aerobic exercise class will be held in the Franklin High School gymnasium. A meeting to set schedules is scheduled for Thursday January 22 at 7 p m in the high school gym. Interested participants are urged to attend and can call Kate Barnett at 828-4393 or 828-3236 for more information.

The Franklin Chamber of Commerce sponsors a monthly flea market to be held on the courthouse square this Saturday January 17. Booths will be available for displaying items and the public is welcome to attend all day. Miss Priscilla Corpora of Austin visited Hearne with her parents and relatives this weekend.

Electric Plant Suggestions To Be Reviewed Monday

Hearne City Council members reviewed drainage issues at a homeowner’s Wheelock Street property and approved a funeral procession route. They studied a utility commission report on Municipal Plant operations and heard 20 recommendations from acting city manager Jim Harless. A special meeting is set for January 19 to vote on five utility commission suggestions and Harless’s items.

Hearne Eagles defeated Leander Lions 81 48 in Hearne on Tuesday and then topped Westlake Chaparrals 54 41 Friday. Lester Davis led scoring with 18 against Leander and 24 versus Westlake. Bruce Clayton and Darrel Pierce added double digits. Hearne improved to 3 1 in district play, faces Manor January 16 in Hearne.

Bicentennial Tree Planting Set Saturday Franklin TX

Robertson County and the Texas Forestry Association sponsor a courthouse lawn ceremony in Franklin on Saturday January 17 at 10 am. County Judge Wesley E. Peyton will host as master of ceremonies. A Tejas pecan Bicentennial Tree will be planted and dedicated. Local Band Choral Club clergymen and officials join in this salute to the nation’s 200th birthday.

Awards Rolling In For Second Science Fair

Awards to be given during the second annual Brazos Valley Science and Engineering Fair are rolling in. Dr Jim Rand reports donations from the Army include three license medals and 11 certificates of achievement. Peir could win an air trip to Sweden for Nobel ceremonies and 11 offers of orientation visits or summer jobs in Army labs. Fair judging director Bob Clark notes the value of science investigation and discussion with Army personnel.
