Late yesterday a large truck and trailer crossed onto Lewelling boulevard to pass. The newly filled Ashland sewer trench, within 18 inches of the highway, created a soft shoulder and mud traps as several cars had to be towed from the trench in recent rain. Olive Silva reports repeated slip incidents with no warning lights. The situation demands urgent inspection by the Oro Lomu Sanitary District. A Hayward area regional park meeting is planned to discuss regional park plans near Castro Valley, including EBMUD watershed lands, with potential golf, picnicking, and boating facilities four to five miles from Hayward. Some residents question project control and accuse saboteurs of hindering progress.

40000 Suit Fled in Injury Case After Collision
Mutt Merritt of Hollywood filed a $40000 personal injuries suit in superior court stemming from a head on crash on Altamount Saturday. Defendant is Alice Hitchman of San Leandro owner of the other car, Elmer Hutetmin, and three John D. Reported furniture damages total 1528.78. An unidentified passenger was riding with Mrs. Hitchman. police have not located the person. Complaint filed by Cyril Roche and Marvin Sherwin.

Unknown assailant knocks cafe owner in Castro Valley
Alton Shelton, 40, cafe proprietor, told sheriff he was struck on the head as he returned home at 1883 Oriole Ave. The attacker fled toward EB 14th Street after Shelton fired four shots. A metal bicycle stand may have been used to strike him. Receipts of about 200 to 400 dollars were with him.

One Killed Three Hurt in Wet Pavement Accidents
One person died and three were injured in three separate accidents reported yesterday. Pedestrian Manuel Sanchez, 65, was struck and killed on Highway 50 north of Pleasanton by Edward Elbert 25 of Camp Sherman. Witness Frank Aspinoga of Pleasanton. Pedestrian George Rose 14 was injured in a separate collision on Niles road involving Lloyd Silvaria 93 of San Leandro. In a third crash on Washington Avenue underpass, Ted Archer 25 and Helen Metcalf 20 were injured in a three car crash after truck brakes failed on slick pavement, with Duane Young 30 and Samuel Mono wed 14 among others involved.
