Newscaster Sam Hayes will address 250 to 300 community leaders at a luncheon in Hayward on Tuesday as part of Chamber of Commerce Week. At Soerabaja highest Java base British troops numbering between two thousand and eight thousand fought Indonesian extremists using captured Japanese tanks and armored cars. Casualties were reported on both sides including at least one Indian officer killed and other British and Indian wounded. Sukarno disavowed the resistance and flew to Soerabaja to assess the extremists led by Dr Mutsopo who he called insane. A truce around Brig Mallaby’s British HQ eased the violence. Two American freighters laden with Dutch stores from New Guinea were expected to reach Batavia next day.
