San Francisco attorney general U S Webb said the Republican Central committee would pick a substitute candidate to replace Congresssman Charles F Curry, who died in Washington on the eve of the November election. Judge Buck presides over Minnie Roderick and Will Woodring convictions for murdering Frank Roderick, La Hondz rancher and their husband. County tax collector Edward T. Planer will be at the Bank of Italy in Oakland on Friday October 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to collect taxes for 1950. He will also visit Pleasanton October 21 Centerville October 28 Livermore October 29 San Leandro November 7, with headquarters at the Bank of Italy in each town. The Veterans Memorial building project in Hayward may raise local interest during tax visits.
Sacramento October 11 Governor C C Young approved a 310 000 9000 construction program for California s state owned harbor at San Francisco This plan, aligning with President Hoover s push for public works to ease unemployment, awaits voter approval on Proposal No 9 on November 4 It envisions nine new concrete piers new grain terminal capacity at Islais Creek and an expanded state refrigerator terminal for farmers, funded by a 10 000 900 bond issue repaid from harbor revenues.

A letter carried by the Graf Zeppelin from Finland to Germany and across the Atlantic by boat, then flown to New York by air mail, arrived Wednesday to Ted Soderlund of Alvarado. Mailed in Finland on September 24, it completed a world journey in 15 days, with the envelope packed with stamps and cancellations. Local stamp collectors seek the rare Zeppelin cancellations for their collections.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hercelia MacIntosh wife of James MacIntosh of Richmond and formerly Hayward will be held at the Presbyterian church in Richmond at 2 30 o clock Monday afternoon conducted by Curry Funeral parlors of Richmond. Mrs. MacIntosh was 65 years old. She was visiting a daughter Mrs. Lillian Wetzel who is ill at McCloud Siskiyou county at the time of her death. She leaves two sons James and Charles and two daughters Mrs Janet Hitchcock and Mrs Wetzel.
