One sailor is dead and two other sailors plus a civilian are injured after a car from Camp Shoemaker fell 35 feet off a guard rail on Highway 50 west of Dublin about 2:30 AM. Vehicle details and victims’ identities are withheld pending relatives’ notification. Police think loss of control or tire blowout caused the crash.
Bids for construction of the first guayule processing plant in southern San Joaquin valley will be called for Oct 15. J Lillevig district supervisor for the emergency rubber project in Bakersfield says guayule raised locally now goes to Salinas. A tract of land and water rights in the southeast section of Bakersfield has been purchased for the mill, set to be completed and operating by Feb 2 1945.
Salinas dispatch reports Vietor McLaglen and Tibbetts testified today to place Frank Andrews at a Clovis ranch near Fresno on July 14 and 16, hours before Jay Lovett was found dead. McLaglen described Andrews at his ranch from 4 pm to 10 pm July 16, with further accounts placing Andrews at the Carmel Valley ranch. Tibbetts said Andrews and he spent July 14 from 7 pm to midnight together, while Tibbetts noted seeing Mrs Andrews in Fresno weeks earlier.
Chinese officials criticized the United States and Great Britain for providing only token aid to China in the war against Japan. They cited Western reluctance as a factor behind military reverses, noting the 4th air force's limited support and a Japanese occupation of Tanchuk airfield after American bases were abandoned. Injuries occurred when three cars collided on state route No B near Duulen Rd at 5 44 pm Sunday. Leon Talley drove left of center striking Charles Harris, forcing him into Richard Garner’s car. Bertha Garner suffered a broken leg and facial lacerations. Richard Garner had minor facial cuts. Both taken to St Paul’s Hospital in Livermore.
Ronald Prantlin Sorensen of 54 Westfield Ave reports a Hawthorne bar frame bicycle stolen from the old Sorensen parking lot on Castra St between unspecified hours. The red and white painted bike bears license No 104 and matches a prior paint job.
A slip of the boning knife caused Tiny Wong to cut a 14 inch hole in his groin while cutting meat at the ALL IN ONE Market on Main Street. Police found Wong bleeding and he was rushed to Hayward Hospital where his condition was reported as serious but stable.
In Madera, 17 year old J. W. Jennings was killed when a rifle in the hands of his friend Jackie Gill was discharged accidentally at Gill family home. The bullet struck Jennings in the chest.
U S Chamber of Commerce President Eric A Johnston urged progressive wage increases after the war while advocating continuation of current wage and price stabilization during hostilities. He warned against inflation and deflation, supported postwar wage hikes as production improves, and called for consensus among management, labor, and government to avoid economic disruption.

A man named Peer was struck by a vehicle at the corner of Mouh Ave and East 4th Street, then shot and killed by a deputy sheriff yesterday. The incident occurred on the road near the Pilar.
First Army assault troops pushed along a 20 mile front above Aachen in the largest attack since Normandy. They crossed the Wurm river and the Aachen Dusseldorf railroad, driving toward Merkstein Herzogenrath and into Siegfried line fortifications amid heavy bombardment by air and artillery. John Liebgott Jr was bitten on the leg by a dog owned by Gilbert Jamison. Rodney Gregory, age three, was bitten on the wrist by a dog owned by Lewis Butts. Each owner warned to tie up the animals for observation. Springfield Armory recently produced its 5,000,000th Carcatel automatic rifle.
United Press notes clear and mild afternoon temperatures in the Bay Region today and Tuesday with foggy early Tuesday. Northern California remains clear today and tonight through Tuesday except for morning coastal fogs and a cloudy Tuesday in the northwest portion, with cool nights ahead.
