More than 110 was raised in the Poppy day sale for disabled war veterans by the American Legion Auxiliary on Saturday. Mrs. M. I. Dohner chaired the event with Mrs. D. R. Galbraith as president, with booths at the Hayward theatre Bank of Italy Bank of Haywards Blank's Prentice Floral and several stores. Dozens of Auxiliary members and volunteers including Mesdames Johnson Saylors Allen Bradford Vadnais Godkin Morean Clark Craig Henrie Kesterson Morgan Wheeler Voorhees Lynn Prentice Clapp Whetstone Hopland and Perry aided throughout the day.

Blaze Damages Vacant Cha Bridie Building
Fire caused an estimated 250 to 300 dollars of damage to the vacant Cha Bridie building on Frank J. Cunha Tota opposite the plaza Saturday night. Fire began in the second story and crews faced access difficulties before the blaze was brought under control. A rubbish pile was found and investigators suggested youths may have ignited it.

Judge Engs death ruled accident in Oakland quarry
Oakland police branded the death of 55 year old Superior Judge Edward W. Engs as accidental. His body was found crushed at the bottom of a quarry near his home after a 10 day search.
