In a bank line a man argues against a school swimming pool while others defend it as essential physical education. He claims buses and time waste the period, while supporters cite safety, fitness, and examples from Berkeley and other California high schools. The man admits he never learned to swim.
In San Francisco Annie Trene Mansfeldt awaits a jury verdict on not guilty by reason of insanity in the alleged jealousy slaying of nurse Vada Martin. The six man six woman jury, two weeks earlier, found Mansfeldt guilty of manslaughter after she pleaded not guilty. The panel was locked up late last night after a four hour and twenty two minute deliberation.
New York officials said the Washington one hour operators strike was a sitdown demonstration over supervisory duties and not tied to Western Electric walkouts. Operators sat from 10 to 11 a.m. with hands in laps to prevent others from operating switchboards during that hour. Emergency long distance calls were accepted in New York.
Harry Rizzo announced that the Cannery local executive board voted no money would be paid from the union to Tony Correia who had been suspended for alleged CIO activities. No decision on reinstatement was made. Correia had claimed promised reinstatement and back pay during his exclusion from the plant.
Mt Eden school district schedules a 50 000 dollar bond election for Friday January 11 from 1 to 2 PM in the school facilities. The funds would add four new rooms upgrade the auditorium annex, and provide playground resurfacing while allowing purchase of adjacent lots for campus expansion.
The War Chest drive will close February 1 and feature the awarding of a Chevrolet as the highlight. Each donor of one dollar or more will receive a dinner during the closing weeks while the winner of the prize is determined in January. Entertainment plans are still under discussion by the War Chest committee.

The Pearl Harbor inquiry panel was told that the original Rab ens commission report on the Pearl Harbor disaster cannot be found in federal records. Chief Counsel William D. Mitchell said he could not locate the initial document filed by the 1942 commission led by Justice Owen J. Roberts. Mitchell reported he has checked all agencies including the War Department Navy and State Department and asked Justice Roberts for guidance on the missing file.

She will run the Castro Valley playground next term, lead square dancing, organize women’s basketball at the high school, and teach folk dancing to Independent School children each Wednesday 3 5 pm, starting January extension of district facilities.

Bell a sailor stationed at Camp Shoemaker reported to Hayward police that his car was stolen from a parking lot at C and Main streets between 4 p m yesterday and 7 30 a m today The incident involves a loss of the vehicle and a police report was filed as servicemen arrivals were noted in San Francisco with thousands expected to reach the city for transportation home Officials mention ongoing efforts to move servicemen efficiently while wartime conditions continue to affect logistics and morale
London UNRRA chief of operations in Germany Lt Gen Sir Frederick E Morgan was discharged after UNRRA said he resigned under a demand linked to a claim that organized Jewry planned mass migration to Palestine. Morgan refused, lost authority and pay, and is left jobless in UNRRA. Separately, boxing champion reports the theft of a $1500 diamond and platinum engagement ring from his home.
Tokyo reports Gen Douglas MacArthur issued two decrees barring militaristic factions and political organizations from public office. Cabinet members linked to abolished groups likely to resign, prompting a major reshuffle and delaying January elections as hundreds may be barred from running.
Sacramento California Attorney General Robert W Kenny ruled that postwar project funding of $10 000 000 for site plans and acquisitions applies only to projects with a state interest beyond unemployment. Libraries parks city yards city halls recreation and war memorials are ineligible. highways major streets sewage plants and sanitary facilities qualify. As of December 1 applications totaled 440 000 for sites with 27 085 allotted and 2 046 000 sought for planning with 560 196 allocated. Further legislative or judicial action may be needed to resolve the law.
Three youths were cited by the sheriff yesterday in connection with thefts at two hog ranchos. The incident at Independent Hog ranch involved a shotgun, rubber boats, and shells taken after Wednesday, with a doorway lock damaged. At Bran dons Hog ranch, rubber boots and coats were stolen. The notices were reported by Mike Ramacciott of 982 D Street and William Brandoni of 160 Peralta Street, San Leandro.
Anthony Francis of San Francisco was injured yesterday on Foothill boulevard and 180th avenue when the door handle of a car struck him as he crossed Ue street. Driver William H. Schoner 81 of 1222 St Maiis Ave nud said he could not avoid Francis who suddenly loomed before him. Francis had minor lacerations. In a second incident Dannie Luga 714 of Sacramento visiting at 7767 A street was struck running in front of a Key System bus at A and Ruby streets. The bus driver Charlie Snyder 56 718-1st avenue Oakland stopped the bus and the youngster crawled out from under the bus. He was treated for minor injuries at Hay hospital.
President Truman in a radio address charged labor management and Congress with hindering reconversion and risking national disaster. He urged public support, warned of inflation and housing hazards, and pressed for action while criticizing misrepresentation by spokesmen. Congressional reactions split largely by party, with calls for cooperation and efficient government.
Sacramento reports preparations underway for a special reconversion session opening Monday. Gov. Carl Warren seeks action on housing, veterans affairs, postwar employment and disability insurance, plus about 40 minor measures. With an election year and many terms expiring, disputes are likely as campaigns begin before a session slated to last six weeks to two months. A postwar employment fund of 390 million dollars is expected to spark lengthy arguments between two houses and local government groups urge division among cities counties and other units.

The patrol scope for wardens of the state division of fish and game will expand significantly with a focus on airplane patrols and two way radio communication between patrol vehicles and district offices, contingent on funds in the division supplemental budget if approved at the state legislature special session.
The December report shows 142 misdemeanor and 19 felony cases in the In cal residents. Felonies include six grand thefts and four burglaries with one kidnapping. One suspect is in trial, and 90 petty thefts led the count, followed by 23 disturbances of the peace. Fourteen missing persons were reported, one death by self harm, and three attempted personal crisis cases. One person was reported for a ride incident.
