French patriots, aided by Allied forces, seized Paris after four days of bloody urban combat ending with German forces retreating toward the Seine. General Koenig announced a 50,000 strong patriot army and mass demonstrations by Parisians helped drive out the last Nazi garrison as American, Canadian, and British units pushed east and toward Trouville and the Seine estuary. Lt. Gen. Omar Bradley’s 2nd Army moved along the Seine channels, closing the escape routes for the German remnants.

Four Hayward Boys held for admitting four burglaries
Four Hayward youths aged 14 to 17 admitted to Chief George Forth that they participated in four burglaries. After pickup by Santa Clara police, officers found loot under a mobile home including a cigarette machine, stolen tax station items, and other stolen goods from Eden Laundry and Tonys hamburger. The group planned further robberies, one boasting they would target drunks on Saturdays. They were taken to the Oakland Detention Home awaiting juvenile court action.

Machinists Defy Navy Overtime Orders in San Francisco

A U S grand jury in San Francisco indicted Salva tore Maugeri, Joseph Tocca, and Joseph Burri of Santa Cruz on two counts relating to opium and its transportation.
