Edgar West a 22 year old soldier stationed at Chico Army Airfield escaped serious harm when his P-48 fighter belly flopped into a bean field near San Lorenzo to avoid crashing into a new housing project. The plane tore engines and fuselage, but West walked away with minor injuries after assistance from W S Storch. Richmond Calif salesman Marvin Paul Michael and James Lannigan were arrested in Reno on a federal complaint of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution for a $14,233 robbery at Ta Neva He Lake Tahoe resort. Man Burned In Gas Fire While Repairing Truck
William Rose and his repair helper Joseph Castellanos were working on a truck when a spark from the engine ignited gasoline in the carburetor. Rose, 37, suffered second and third degree burns to the chest and arms and was taken to Hayward Hospital. Castellanos was burned on the hands and arms but aided in beating out the flames. Rio Visten Fined for Speeding in Hayward Court
John Francisco Azevedo, 54, of Castro Valley, was fined 15 dollars in Hayward Justice Court after Officer Ayers testified he issued a July 17 speeding ticket for 65 mph in a 25 mph zone along the boulevard.
