Hartselle Fishing Club awards dam contract for Lake Ashworth
The Hartselle Fishing Club awarded the Shoal Creek dam project to R A Burleson and A M Duneway after the lowest bids. The concrete and red clay dam will 54 feet at the base, 16 feet high, 400 feet long, creating about 40 acres of water named Lake Ashworth in honor of donor J W Ashworth. Construction began Wednesday with completion expected in September. the lake will be stocked for fishing and a clubhouse and facilities are planned nearby on land donated by Ashworth. The lake lies about a mile east of Hartselle on the Somerville pike.
